The rich flavor of sour cream raisin bars is like heaven in your mouth.
There are many variations in recipes for sour cream raisin bars, but they all have the same basic ingredients. These consist of oatmeal, butter, sour cream and raisins. You take the oatmeal and mix it with melted butter, brown sugar, flour, a little baking soda and create a crust, pressing mixture into your pan. Some recipes call for pre-baking the crust, while some don’t. Next, the raisins need to be cooked with some water and some sugar until plump then drained and mixed with the sour cream and poured into the pie crust. Having reserved a little of the crust mixture, some like to sprinkle some of it on top of the sour cream mixture. This is then baked for about 20 minutes or so or until the custard is firm. Some recipes change things around using egg yolks, vanilla and vanilla pudding mixes.
Like any other recipe, everyone has to add or take something out to create their own version of this rich dessert. Searching the Internet and trying several different recipes will narrow your choices down to which ones you like the best. These bars keep well in the freezer, so make a couple batches at a time and freeze them. You never know when you’ll need a dessert in a hurry.
