Here are the ingredients you need for the southern recipe of the strawberry cake poured into a punch bowl. This recipe can be used all year round since the strawberries are frozen.
The ingredients include: 1 of box yellow cake mix, 1 (6 oz.) instant vanilla pudding, 1 large can crushed pineapple (drained), 2 (10 oz.) packages of frozen strawberries, 2 bananas, 1 (16 oz.) tub of Cool Whip.
First bake the yellow cake and set it aside to cool. Make the vanilla pudding and set it aside in the refrigerator to cool as well. Cut the cake with a knife into chunks, and put half the chunks of cake in a punch bowl. Spread over the top half the mixture of your pudding. Then spread half the can of crushed pineapple over the pudding. The top layer is one 10 oz. package of frozen strawberries. Slice one banana on top of this. Next, spread half or eight oz. of the Cool Whip on top.
Repeat the above steps so that the Cool Whip is on top. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator over night. Find this at http://southerncuisine.suite101.com/article.cfm/strawberry_punch_bowl_cake_recipe.
In order to make this cake low calories, substitute the yellow cake with angel food cake. Instead of pudding, use NutraSweet and skim milk. One final tip is to use a can of pineapple that does not have sugar. Also, make sure that there is no sugar in the frozen strawberries. You can also cut calories by choosing the lite Cool Whip.
