You may have heard it said that something is as American as apple pie. According to the internet information the first apple pie was introduced in England. The following recipe was found at RecipeLion.com and is a very simple one with the crust recipe also.
You will need one cup shortening, cut into three cups flour, one teaspoon salt until mixture is the consistency of coarse meal. Combine one teaspoon vinegar and one egg and add five tablespoons water. Add liquid to dry ingredients and mix until dough forms a ball. Divide dough and pat out with hands into desired shape on floured sheet. Put another floured sheet on top and smooth with rolling pin. Transfer to pie dish using the wax paper. This yields four crusts. Store unused dough.
Then there are the pie assembly instructions. Pastry for two crusts six to nine baking apples, and cut into chunks. Use one tablespoon cornstarch 1/2 teaspoon salt three tablespoon butter, melted one teaspoon ground cinnamon, three tablespoons sugar, 1/3 cup light corn syrup, 1/2 Cup light brown sugar, three tablespoons light corn syrup, two tablespoons flour, two tablespoons butter, softened. Fill pastry-lined pie pan with apples. Use a nine or 10 inch cast iron skillet, these make a great crust. Combine next six ingredients and pour over apples. Cover with top crust, a lattice works best as it allows plenty of steam to escape. Bake at 425 F for 30-45 minutes. Combine remaining ingredients and spread over crust. Return to oven for 10 minutes or until topping is bubbly.
