Apple Sauce Bread

It's the time of year when baking different kinds of breads for the holidays. There are many recipes for pumpkin bread, cranberry bread, banana bread, and, of course, applesauce bread. Just imagine the aroma in your kitchen
as the applesauce and spices bake together to form a delicious and nourishing treat. There is a very good recipe located on AllRecipes.com.

The ingredients are: 1 1/4 cups applesauce, 1 cup white sugar, 1/2 cup vegetable oil, 2 eggs, 3 tablespoons milk, 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice, 1/3 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 cup chopped pecans.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan. Combine applesauce, sugar, oil, eggs, and milk;beat well. Sift in flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and salt; stir until smooth. Fold in pecans and pour batter into loaf pan. Bake 60 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

TheKneadForBread.com also has a yummy recipe for applesauce bread that contains oatmeal and a filling made from cream cheese, powdered sugar, flour, honey, vanilla and an egg. The bread is also topped with a mixture of chopped pecans, brown sugar and cinnamon.

This bread is meant for a treat. One slice contains 268 calories with 95 calories from fat. This gives you 16% of fat, 17% cholesterol, 17% sodium, 14% carbohydrate, and 8% protein. It's fine to enjoy this and other breads but it's best to do so sparingly.
