Pumpkin Pie

A can of pureed pumpkin is typically the main ingredient in a pumpkin pie. The pumpkin pie is a traditional sweet dessert in North America during the fall and early winter, especially for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Pumpkin pie is pumpkin-based custard baked in a single crust using spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and ginger. There are hundreds of recipes for this simple pumpkin pie, but most everyone has used the recipe on the Libby's canned pumpkin label.

To make Libby's famous pumpkin pie, mix 3/4 cup granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger and 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves in a small bowl. Beat two large eggs in large bowl. Stir in 1 can of Libby's 100% pure pumpkin and sugar-spice mixture. Gradually stir in 1 can of Nestlè Carnation® evaporated milk. Pour all that into an unbaked nine-inch deep-dish pie shell.

Bake in a preheated 425 degree Fahrenheit oven for 15 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees and bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack for two hours and then serve immediately or refrigerate. As always, be sure to top with whipped cream before serving.

Many home cooks traditionally use a recipe handed down in the family for many years and there are some people that like to use a pecan or crumbly oatmeal topping. Paula Deen is a famous Southern cook from the Food Network and one of her special recipes uses cream cheese. The pie is rich but fluffy and people have given it high reviews.
