Dutch Apple Pie
Apple pie is one of the most popular pies made during the holiday season in America and Europe, and for good reason. Apple pies
can often be distinguished from other pies at a distance by their
distinctive lattice of top pastry crust, although sometimes the crust
is made solid. One of the most delicious varieties is Dutch apple pie. Dutch apple pie
made in the United States is not really any more "Dutch" than any other
pie; the main difference is that it includes cinnamon and often lemon
juice.
For a great tasting Dutch apple pie that your whole family will love, you will need the following ingredients:
For the crust you'll need:
One cup flour
One third cup shortening
One teaspoon salt
Three tablespoons water
The pie filling requires:
One half cup sugar
Enough apples to fill the crust
Cinnamon and nutmeg to taste
To make a delicious topping, you'll need:
One half cup sugar
Three fourths cup flour
One third cup butter
Cut shortening into the other dry crust ingredients. Mix and add water until slightly moist. Roll into pie crust shape and place into nine inch pie pan.
For the filling,
slice peel and slice apples. Fill pie crust with apples, and sprinkle
with half cup of sugar. Sprinkle on nutmeg and cinnamon to taste. Bake
for 15 minutes at 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
For the topping, cut butter into flour and sugar and mix. Spoon over the top of the pie. Return to oven and bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees
